The actor, who is a longtime recovering alcoholic, checked himself into the world-famous Betty Ford Center after becoming dangerously addicted to pain pills.

Butler first began struggling with pain management in 2006 while filming the physically demanding movie 300.
"There was definitely a period of adjustment and physical pain because I stopped training. That was the worst thing I could have done," he recently told the Daily Mail.
According to TMZ, his issues got worse after he was badly hurt in a surfing accident in California last December while filming Of Men and Mavericks.
"It was a pretty close call," Butler said of the accident, during which he was pummeled by 12-foot waves and barely made it to the surface.
"The waves just took me in, and I couldn't get up. It was pretty hairy. It was maybe one of the few times that reports were not exaggerated."
His rehab stint does not appear to be related to alcohol, a problem he has been battling since his early 20s. "One or two drinks was never enough for me. I was a foot-on-the-floor-all-the-way drinker, so it had to go," he told The Red Bulletin just weeks ago.
"I don't miss it. Now it's as if I never had a drink in my life. At one point, I could never have conceived of going out and not drinking but, as time goes on, you lose the urge and the insecurity that often makes people drink in the first place."
The Betty Ford Center is known for its celebrity clients and was the scene of one of Lindsay Lohan's most infamous incidents, when she allegedly assaulted a counselor. No charges were ever filed.
Butler's rep confirmed he was released from treatment today, just in time for the Oscars this weekend. "Gerard has completed a successful course of treatment and has returned home in good health," the rep said.
